The below image shows a predction of what the coastline might look like in 100 years with a three foot rise in sea level. Barrier beaches will move back and reform, buffering a new salt pond regime (shown in dark green). Dark blue shows the new extent of the ocean. Areas in light blue would become the new waterfront real estate. The lines drawn in this map represent discussions among numerous Rhode Island experts in coastal geology. A three foot rise over the next hundred years is a conservative number.
