Geologic features in the area suggest that the current Potters and Point Judith salt pond will triple in size (or more) with a three foot rise. Instead of a salt pond ecologic community, the area will be much more inundated by tidal change and become a robust marine community. This presents a tremendous opportunity to engineer a highly productive marine wetlad system. Saltwater wetlands and estuaries are the most productive plant communities on earth and can fix huge amounts of carbon and nitrogen in short periods of time. They also provide essential habitat to many plant and animals species while providing people with numerous recreational opportunities. |
