People have been retreating from rising seas since the last Ice Age. Archeological records show that prehistoric Americans once lived as far as 200 miles towards the open ocean on the edge of the continental shelf. While the beach can be armored, it is only a delay of the inevitable loss of shoreline. However, property boundaries make retreat a very difficult idea to swallow. Beachfront property--though risky--is still very valuable.
